Posted by Liz Claytor on Fri, Jun 29, 2012 @ 08:51 PM

It's an exciting time at Splash Swim School and in the world of swimming! We are opening our new, Splash Walnut Creek facility soon, and enrollments will open shortly.

Excitement is also building for the summer Olympics with the USA swimming team trials well underway. We thought we'd share some stories and upcoming events of interest.

Swimmers share one sleepy bachelor pad

This article covers some of the local athletes as they've been preparing for the Olympic trials while renting a 5,000 square foot in the Oakland hills. It features freestyle sprinters Nathan Adrian, Will Copeland and Graeme Moore, and breaststroke sprinter Sean Mahoney. Moore has secured up a berth on the South African team while the Americans are training for the Olympic trials currently unnderway. Check out their story on SFGate.

Cal's Teri McKkeever set to coach U.S. Olympic Team

Coaching for Cal and country is a story about Teri McKeever, the first woman head coach of a U.S. Olympic swim team. McKeever has coached 17 Olympic athletes during her two decade tenure in Berkeley. Now, she has the opportunity to lead the U.S. Olympic women's swimming team to victory in the 2012 London Games!

"Teri was an awesome coach to swim for," says Splash Director, Liz Claytor. "She has a gift for getting her athletes to their fullest potential, and she actively seeks ways to keep training as fresh and fun as possible. She deserves this recognition, and I am so proud to say that she was my coach!"

Splash Walnut Creek Location Update and FAQ

Posted by Liz Claytor on Wed, Jun 13, 2012 @ 01:01 PM

Construction is well underway and we look forward to seeing everyone in Walnut Creek this summer! Splash Walnut Creek is going to be a first-class swim school, and we are excited to announce our opening date very soon. We are also working behind the scenes on the schedule and pre-enrollment plans. Subscribe to our new location updates newsletter, and you will be one of the first to know!

Splash Walnut Creek Under Construction

Interest in the new location has been fantastic! We have received lots of great questions, and we thought we would include some of the more common ones below. Let us know if you have more!

Question:Will there be any additional fees to transfer a child from San Ramon to the new, Walnut Creek school?
Splash:There are no fees to transfer between classes within a facility, or between the locations of San Ramon and Walnut Creek. All we require is 24-hours notice to change your regularly-scheduled class, and we will be happy to move your student(s) into an available spot at another time, day and/or location. Also, as a current San Ramon student, you will be eligible for a special priority enrollment period should you wish to transfer to Walnut Creek!

Question:Will there be an early sign up period for Splash Walnut Creek? How will we know when to sign up for lessons?
Splash:Being on this email list means you will be among the first to have details as to the class schedule and when enrollment opens. Also, please Like us on Facebook as we will also post updates there concerning when the Walnut Creek early enrollment period is open, as well as schedule updates, holiday breaks and upcoming events.

Question:Will you have Superfish Club at the Walnut Creek location?
Splash:We are currently working on the schedule, and yes, we are planning to open Superfish Club shortly after we open in Walnut Creek.

Question:What is Superfish Club?
Splash:It is a pre-competitive swim class that is offered at select times throughout the week. These classes are run along the length of the pool for added endurance, are forty-five minutes in duration, and have 6 students per 1 instructor. The main focus of Superfish Club is technique, but swimmers also learn skills that they will need for participation on swim team, such as learning to read the pace clock and circle swimming.

Questions regarding age-group classes. We received several questions about age-specific lessons and class sizes as follows:

  • What will you have for 5 and 6 year-olds, and what's the class size? Splash:For children ages 3 and up, we have our Ribbon Level program. These small group classes are a half-hour, once-per-week and have a 4 to 1 student to instructor ratio. A personal consultation with our office staff will help you determine the most appropriate Ribbon Level in which to start your child, based on previous experience and age. Please go to our web site to view Splash Swim School's Ribbon Level program.
  • What do you have for 18 month olds? Splash:We have our Water Babies class for 6-36 month olds. These classes are a parent or caregiver participation class and have a 6 to 1 student to instructor ratio. For more information, visit our Water Babies page on our web site.

Question:Will the Walnut Creek pool be indoors and warm?
Splash:Yes! Splash San Ramon is indoors, and the Walnut Creek facility will be indoors as well. Both are heated to 92 degrees year-round for the comfort of our little swimmers!

For more information on our program and philosophy, please visit Our Program page on our web site, or call the office at (925) 838-SWIM (7946). Also, visit our FAQ page for answers to other commonly-asked questions.

Cal Bears Win Back-to-Back Men's & Women's NCAA Swimming Championships!

Posted by Liz Claytor on Wed, Apr 11, 2012 @ 11:42 AM

cal men champs

Move over Title Town, we've got Swim City, USA right here in the East Bay! The Cal Bears men's and women's swimming and diving teams are NCAA Champs, again!

cal women swimming champs

Not only is it uncommon for a team to repeat as national champs, it's extremely rare to have both men's and women's teams from the same school do it together, in back-to-back years.

But that's exactly what the Cal Bears men's and women's swimming teams have accomplished. Call it the double-double, or whatever superlative you can think of because Cal just became the fourth school ever to have it's men's and women's swimming and diving teams repeat as national champs.

Read more about the men's and women's championships.

As Cal alumni and former members of the Cal swim team, Christian and I are euphoric over our alma mater's amazing achievement. And, on behalf of all of us at Splash Swim School we're extremely proud and wish to congratulate coaches Teri McKeever and David Durden, along with all members of the championship teams!

Kind of makes you want to sign up for a swimming lesson, doesn't it?

Way to go Bears!

Splash Swim School, a leader in indoor swim lessons for babies and children, is pleased to announce the groundbreaking of their second East Bay location in Walnut Creek, California.

liz claytor blog “I am thrilled that we were able to respond to requests for a Splash location in Walnut Creek,” said Liz Claytor, owner and director of Splash Swim School. “With the addition of a second school, we will be bringing our indoor, year-round swim program to a new market,” continued Claytor. “We found a wonderful Walnut Creek location in the North Main corridor, and we are very excited to be breaking ground.”

Splash Swim School anticipates the state-of-the-art Walnut Creek location to open in mid-June, 2012. The indoor pool facility, with water heated to 92 degrees, is specially-designed to create an optimal learning environment. As with all Splash Swim Schools, the company will continue its 4 to 1 student/teacher ratio, with an additional instructor on deck at all times.  Additionally, the Walnut Creek Splash Swim School will offer off street parking and easy freeway access.

Claytor is a working mother herself, with a seventeen month old son. “As a business owner and mother, I know what it’s like to drive from work to daycare or home with a million ‘to-do’ items running through your head,” added Claytor. “At Splash, we provide an opportunity to take a break from your busy day and have an enriching experience with your child.”
